Taipei MRT Upcoming Plan


Neihu Line
The Neihu line, starting from the tail track of the Muzha line just north of Zhongshan Junior High School Station (BR2), is an extension of the Muzha line. It will run on an elevated track along Fuxing North Road and turn right at Minzu East Road heading for Taipei Songshan Airport. It will then go underground on the southern side of the airport where an underground station (Songshan Airport Station) is to be located beneath the existing parking lot in front of the airport terminal building. The route will continue running north beneath the airport itself and the Keelung River, and reach Beian Road in Dazhi where Dazhi Station (B1) is to be built. It will then re-emerge as an elevated line running along Beian Road to a local transportation center, where the elevated Jiannan Rd. Station (B2) is planned. Then, the route will follow Neihu Road, Wende Road, Chenggong Road, and Kangning Road, and end on the southern edge of the Nangang Business Park at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station. From there, passengers will be able to transfer to the Nangang eastern extension to Nangang and travel directly all the way to Banqiao and Tucheng. The total length of the Neihu line will be approximately 14.8 km with 12 stations and one maintenance depot. The Neihu line is scheduled to begin commercial service in June 2009.


Nangang Eastern Extension (Nangang Station to Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station)
This extension section will run underground from Nangang Station, then go north, pass through tunnels belonging to Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railways, turn east, and end at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Station, located beneath Nanxi Park east of Academia Road, where transfer to the Neihu line will be provided. The extension's total length will be approximately 1 km with one underground station, which is expected to be open for commercial service at the end of 2010.


Tucheng Extension to Dingpu
The Tucheng line extension will run underground from the terminus at Yongning Station along Zhongyang Road Sec. 3 and 4, and end at the high-tech industrial district in Dingpu. The total length of the extension will be 2.0 km with one underground station, and commercial service is scheduled to begin in 2013.


Xinzhuang Line
The Xinzhuang line will be 19.7 km in length with 16 underground stations and one maintenance depot, of which 7.3 km is to be located in Taipei City and the remaining 12.4 km in Taipei County. It will start at Guting Station on the Zhonghe line and run beneath Hangzhou South Road, Xinyi Road, Xinsheng South Road, Songjiang Road, Minquan East and West Road, then pass beneath the Danshui River north of Taipei Bridge to Sanchong City. It will continue along Chongxin Road and Jieyun Road then cross the Erchong Flood Channel and run back to Chongxin Road in Sanchong, then continue to Xinzhuang City along Zhongzheng Road and end at Huilong Station near the Losheng Sanatorium. The entire line, apart from the maintenance depot, will run underground.


The section between Taipei Bridge Station and Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station is scheduled to commence commercial service by December 2010. The section between Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station to Guting Station via Dongmen Station is scheduled to begin commercial service in June 2011, while the opening of the remaining section will be reassessed after land acquisition for the Xinzhuang depot is scheduled.


Luzhou Line
The Luzhou line, 6.4 km long with five underground stations and one maintenance depot, will be built in Taipei County. The Luzhou line will start from a turnout on the Xinzhuang line located at the intersection of Sanhe Road and Huanhe North Road just northwest of Taipei Bridge. It will then follow Sanhe Road in Sanchong City and go along Zhongshan 1st Road and Sanmin Road in Luzhou. Then it will make a U-turn along the Shuinan Drainage Channel in front of Huanhe Road. After crossing the Shuinan Drainage Channel near the Luzhou Pumping Station, the line will end at the Luzhou depot. The entire line will be built underground, and is expected to come into operation by December 2010.


Xinyi Line
The Xinyi line, an extenstion of the initial network's Danshui line, will run underground from the Xindian line's Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station along Xinyi Road to the Xinyi Planning District, spanning 6.4 km with seven underground stations (Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station included). Trains will also run from Elephant Mountain Station to Danshui via NTU Hospital Station and Taipei Main Station. Transfers can also be made to the Xindian line at Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Station, to the Xinzhuang line at Dongmen Station, and to the Muzha line at Daan Station. The entire line will be built underground and is scheduled to begin commercial service by the end of 2012.


Songshan Line
The Songshan line will run north from the Nangang line's Ximen Station along Zhonghua Road to Tacheng Street, northeast to Tianshui Street and then turn east along Nanjing West and East Road to Bade Road near Taiwan Railways’ Songshan Station in the east. The 8.5-km-long Songshan line encompasses eight underground stations (Ximen Station included). Trains will provide service between the Xindian line and the Songshan line via the Xiaonanmen line. Transfer to the Nangang and Banqiao lines, Danshui line, Xinzhuang line as well as Muzha line can be made at Ximen Station, Zhongshan Station, Songjiang Nanjing Station and Nanjing E. Rd. Station. The entire line will be built underground and is scheduled to begin serving passengers by 2013.


Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Access MRT System Construction Project (Taipei City Section from Sanchong to Taipei City)
The line will start from Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, pass Terminal 1 in the east, run alongside Dayuan Township and Luzhu Township in Taoyuan County, Linkou Township in Taipei County, Guishan Township in Taoyuan County, Xinzhuang City, Taishan Township, Sanchong City in Taipei County and then enter Taipei Main Station District in Taipei City.


It will also run south from Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Taiwan High Speed Rail Taoyuan Station and end at the intersection of Zhongfeng Road and Huanbei Road in Zhongli City. The total length of this line will be 51.03 km featuring 22 stations.


The line is divided into two sections. The first section from Sanchong to Zhongli passes through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and High Speed Rail Taoyuan Station and is being implemented by the Bureau of High Speed Rail, MOTC. As to the second section from Sanchong to Taipei City, civil engineering was commissioned to Taipei City's Department of Rapid Transit Systems by the MOTC. Detailed design of the civil engineering has been under way since September 22, 2005.


Circular Line Phase I
The Circular line will pass through 10 administrative districts of Taipei City and Taipei County: Wenshan, Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, Xinzhuang, Wugu, Luzhou, Sanchong, Shilin and Zhongshan. The line will be 34.8 km in length with 31 stations and the construction has been approved by the Executive Yuan to be implemented in two phases. The approved routes of the Circular line Phase I will pass through Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang, and connect with five MRT lines: the Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang lines, and the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Access MRT System. Circular line Phase I will be about 15.4 km with 14 stations, implementation of which is about to commence. Implementation of the North and South sections of the Circular line (regarded as separate projects) will be proposed to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for consideration.
