Procedures for Foreign Laborers Upon Arrival in Taiwan

1) Regular Health Examination

a) Within seven days of arrival in Taiwan, foreign laborers are required to have a physical examination administered at a Department of Health-sanctioned medical facility. Those not passing the examination shall be denied a work permit and returned to their home country by the employer.

b) Within seven days after the foreign laborer's six-month stay in Taiwan, she/he is required to have a physical examination administered at a Department of Health-sanctioned medical facility. Those not passing the examination shall be denied a work permit and returned to their home country by the employer.

2. Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

I. Within 15 days of arrival in Taiwan, the employer of the foreign laborer is required to apply for an ARC with the Taipei City Police Department, presenting the work permit issued by the Council for Labor Affairs and proof of a satisfactory physical examination. Foreign laborers who have stayed in Taiwan for over six months must always carry their ARC; those who have not received an ARC must always carry their passports.

II. When applying for an ARC, foreign laborers must appear at the Taipei City Police Department in person and provide fingerprints.

3. Employment Certificate and Extension of Employment After a foreign laborer has arrived in Taiwan, his/her employer must apply for an employment certificate, which the employee must carry at all times. Between 30 to 60 days prior to expiration, the employer must apply for renewal.
